East West Players (EWP) mourns the passing of United States Senator Daniel K. Inouye, World War II veteran, and Medal of Honor recipient. Senator Inouye was a supporter of EWP’s New Theater Campaign and a member of the EWP Council of Governors since 1996.

“We are deeply saddened by this news and offer our condolences to his family. He touched so many people in our community and is an American hero,” said Lynn Fukuhara Arthurs, Chair of the EWP Board of Directors. “We celebrate and honor his public service, his leadership, and his prominence on the national stage.”

“I remember Senator Inouye and hearing about all his achievements as a kid growing up in Hawaii. Finally having the chance to meet him and attending East West Players was indeed an honor for all of us as artists,” said Tim Dang, producing artistic director of EWP. “We will definitely miss him.”

In recognition of Senator Inouye’s lifetime of achievement, East West Players honors Senator Inouye with the highest accolade in the theatre: A Standing Ovation.
